About us
Apex Water was established in 2009 by Matt Savage and Steve Kroening. Based in Timaru, the founders built their experience delivering a range of dairy and wine projects across New Zealand, developing strong technical capability and a practical, delivery-focused approach.
Since then, Apex Water has grown into a nationwide business, with offices in Timaru, Christchurch, Hamilton, Whakatāne, Auckland, and Queenstown. Our multidisciplinary team has a proven track record of achieving strong outcomes for clients and successfully delivering projects across the length of New Zealand.
Originally focused on industrial clients, Apex Water has expanded its capability and successfully transitioned into a leading design and build provider in the municipal water and wastewater sector. We continue to work closely with industrial clients while also partnering with councils throughout New Zealand to deliver complex municipal treatment infrastructure. Today, Apex Water is recognised among the market leaders in municipal design and build, valued for our technical depth, collaborative approach, and ability to deliver reliable, long-term solutions for both industry and communities.
Apex Water has delivered projects for a wide range of clients across New Zealand, including Watercare, Waikato District Council, Western Bay of Plenty District Council, Whakatāne District Council, Queenstown Lakes District Council, Christchurch City Council, and Southland District Council, among others. Our client base also includes industrial operators such as Olam Food Ingredients and Oceania Dairy, as well as developers of private water and wastewater infrastructure throughout New Zealand.
With end-to-end accountability, Apex Water oversees the full lifecycle of water and wastewater treatment plants — from design and construction through to commissioning, operation, and ongoing maintenance. This integrated approach enables us to manage risk effectively, optimise whole-of-life performance, and deliver certainty for our clients.
