We’re currently looking for a Senior Automation Engineer to join our growing team. This is a fantastic opportunity working alongside the wider design and commissioning team, this role ensures seamless development and testing of code as part of project delivery. You will develop and deploy PLC and HMI code for all water and wastewater treatment projects, ensuring the use of standardised code blocks where possible
You won’t be stuck behind a desk - you’ll be hands-on across site and design, working alongside experienced engineers, project teams, and clients to deliver high-quality, fully operational systems.

The successful applicant will:
- Develop PLC and HMI/SCADA code for water and wastewater treatment projects using platforms such as Rockwell and Schneider Electric.
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of standardised code libraries and automation practices.
- Work closely with process, design, and project teams to define control philosophies, I/O requirements, and system architectures.
- Support and deliver testing activities including FAT and SAT, ensuring systems meet design intent and functional requirements.
- Assist commissioning teams with on-site activities, troubleshooting, optimisation and system integration.
- Interpret client specifications and ensure automation systems are compliant, practical and fit for purpose.
- Develop and maintain high-quality documentation, including functional descriptions, test sheets and QA records.
- Trouble shoot and resolve automation and control system issues using appropriate diagnostic tools.
- Build strong working relationships with internal teams, clients, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, new technologies and best practice automation delivery.
We're looking for people who:
- Holda relevant engineering qualification (BE or similar).
- Have 5–10+years’ experience in automation within water, wastewater, or similar process industries.
- Have strong experience with PLC programming (e.g. Rockwell, Schneider) and HMI/SCADA systems.
- Are confident working with control system architectures, network topologies, and plant integration.
- Have experience across the full project lifecycle, including design, FAT/SAT and commissioning support.
- Are capable of troubleshooting live systems and integrating new automation into existing plants.
- Understand site-based work and have a strong awareness of health & safety practices.
- Have strong communication, documentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Are self-motivated, detail-focused, and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Are open to travel and enjoy working on varied projects across NZ.
- Have knowledge of water or wastewater treatment systems (highly desirable).
- Understand site-based work and have strong awareness of health & safety practices.
