Apex awarded major contract with Central Otago District Council

Central Otago District Council (CODC) has awarded Apex Water the tender to design and construct Cromwell’s new water treatment plant and carry out upgrades to the town’s borefield infrastructure.

This significant investment marks a major milestone in securing safe, reliable drinking water for the growing Cromwell community. The project will deliver a modern, state-of-the-art water treatment facility and enhance the resilience and capacity of the town’s groundwater supply. Apex is known for its commitment to preserving and enhancing the natural environment and innovative water solutions and this aligns with CODC’s goals for sustainable water management.

“We’re proud to partner with Apex Water to deliver this critical upgrade,” said CODC’s Capital Projects Programme Manager Patrick Keenan. "The $14.7 million project is a significant step forward in ensuring a sustainable and secure water supply for the growing Cromwell community."

The aim of this project is to upgrade the Cromwell water supply and treatment plant to meet the needs of a growing community and ensure compliance with the New Zealand Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules (NZDWQAR).  This will be achieved by upgrading the borefield between Lake Dunstan and the Alpha Street recreation reserve to meet current and future project supply demands and installation of UV disinfection with chlorination to provide a 4-log protozoal treatment barrier.
