Western Bay of Plenty Water Treatment Plant Programme

Western Bay of Plenty Water Treatment Plant Programme
Apex Water designed, constructed and commissioned five water treatment plants for Western Bay of Plenty District Council at Athenree, Wharawhara, Tahawai, Waihi Beach and Ohourere, achieving Practical Completion across the programme within one year.
Initially awarded the design and build contract to upgrade Athenree and Wharawhara, Apex proposed replacing the ageing infrastructure with new facilities incorporating UV treatment and hydrofluorosilicic acid (HFA) dosing systems. Apex also supported the Council through the resource and building consent processes.
Following the successful delivery of these works, the Council awarded Apex three additional plant upgrades. Off-site construction enabled the team to deliver and commission all three within just two months.
Working alongside Alta Consulting NZ, Lutra and Beca, and in close collaboration with the Council and Ministry of Health, Apex managed an accelerated programme across multiple sites while maintaining high standards of safety, quality and workmanship.
The programme won the CCNZ Bay of Plenty Hynds Construction Award for projects valued between $5 million and $20 million, recognising Apex’s ability to deliver complex water infrastructure within demanding timeframes.
