Apex Water wins construction award for Western Bay of Plenty water treatment programme
The programme involved the design, construction and commissioning of plants at Athenree, Wharawhara, Tahawai, Waihi Beach and Ohourere, with all five achieving Practical Completion within one year.
Initially appointed to upgrade the Athenree and Wharawhara plants, Apex proposed replacing the ageing infrastructure with new facilities incorporating UV treatment and hydrofluorosilicic acid (HFA) dosing systems. The team also supported the Council through the resource and building consent processes.
Following the successful delivery of these works, the Council awarded Apex three further plant upgrades. Using off-site construction, the team delivered and commissioned all three within just two months.
The programme brought together Apex Water, design consultants Alta Consulting NZ, Lutra and Beca, Western Bay of Plenty District Council and the Ministry of Health. Close collaboration helped the team manage multiple sites and an accelerated programme while maintaining high standards of safety, quality and workmanship.
The award recognises the collective effort behind the programme and Apex’s ability to deliver water treatment infrastructure within demanding timeframes.
